Spruce resin
Nordic people have used this traditionally for centuries, probably for millennia, and to this day to treat wounds, infections and abscesses. It has also been used when removing foreign bodies, such as splinters from the skin. Furthermore, research has shown that spruce resin is a potent antimicrobial and antifungal agent (dermatophytes and Candida albicans) which damages the microbial cell membrane. Nowadays, good results have been obtained in treating chronic pressure ulcers or bedsores by overcoming a synthetic agent in research. Spruce resin as an ancient medicine has been gaining more attention in the last ten years.
